内容简介

Informatics is defined as 'the study of the structure, the behaviour and interactions of natural and engineered computational systems'. Now 'informatics' may not mean a great deal to many people, indeed it took a while to find the definition included above but it is an increasingly important field considering the massive amount of data generated by a typical glass manufacturing operation. A more accessible view is that it involves the collection, evaluation, manipulation and use of information and we use it every day in our lives, our work and our leisure. It is just that in some cases it is so natural that we do not recognise it for what it is but every time you make a decision informatics plays a part.
