内容简介MgO-C bricks are widely used for steel converters, vacuum degassers, ladle slaglines, electric arc furnaces, and many more applications, but there is an urgent need to lower the carbon content of the bricks, from the standpoint of heat-loss and carbon pick-up of steel. The main problem associated with lowering the carbon content of MgO-C bricks is the reduction in the spalling resistance. Various methods have been attempted to suppress the reduction in spalling resistance until now. In this paper, the authors report the effects of adding pitch to low-carbon MgO-C bricks, as related to spalling resistance, and specifically the effect on improving the spalling resistance by applying a thermal expansion absorbing layer on the surface of the MgO aggregate grains.
