内容简介

It is known that the flow decay, stiffening and setting behaviour of deflocculated castables depend on matrix components and their interactions. Three main concepts are recognized here: the particle packing, the forces between surfaces and the reactions of calcium aluminate binders. A method was developed and already reported which used a centrifuge to extract pore solutions during the placing phase~(1)). This paper details a complementary method which allows an extraction of pore solution after the stiffening phase and during the onset of setting and hardening. The experiments and analysis cast new light on the role of fume silica, and the nature of the interactions between calcium aluminate cement (CAC) sodium tripolyphosphate (TPP) and fume silica (FS). They show that contrary to what was previously believed, there is a continual dissolution of calcium ions during the workable period and that this concentration falls to zero at the point at which workability is lost. It is also apparent that the reactions in solution that continue to occur after workability is lost and stiffening commences, are complex.
