More than twenty years ago in the middle of 1980s, the Japanese manufacturing industry reached a very high technological level in terms of production engineering and the ability to develop products. In the Japanese steel industry, various new smelting methods were developed and implemented, as were technologies to manufacture high quality steel goods. Following the technological advancements in the steel industry, refractory products in Japan reached a technical level that rivaled or surpassed overseas products. These high quality refractories were proved to perform well in practical use and were highly evaluated abroad. At that time I frequently visited and stayed in Detroit and Chicago to teach companies how to construct and install furnaces, or to instruct them how to manufacture refractories for which the technologically was transferred from Japan.
