内容简介Castable refractory of alumina (Al_2O_3) - spinel (MgAl_2O_4) - silicon carbide (SiC) - carbon (C) composition is commonly used for the metal line (ML) in the main trough of a blast furnace. The effect of NiO powder addition to this main trough castable was studied and described, focusing on the oxidization behavior of SiC at high temperature (1400 deg C). In general, the SiC in the castable tends to react with CO(g) forming SiO(g) which dissipates from the system. With NiO powder addition, this reaction is promoted because of the higher equilibrium vapor pressure of Ni. But instead of escaping, SiO(g) reacts with Ni(g) to form NiO-SiO_2 glassy phase in the castable, causing densification of the castable microstructure. This effect indicates the possibility of improving the castable physical properties, particularly the physical rigidity and reliability of repaired castable.
