As the result of developing a dry material that does not require water and focusing attention on the particle size distribution, the following information was clarified: (1) There existed a particle distribution q value showing a maximum in the packing ratio for each of the raw materials: mullite, alumina and chamotte respectively. (2) It was necessary to reduce the space among the particles to a minimum in order to increase the packing density. (3) As for mullite raw material, the specimen with "b" percent added resin and heated at 300°C for 4 h had a rather low level of mechanical strength. Raising the resin amount more than "b" percent sharply increased the mechanical strength. On the other hand, as for the corrosion resistance, the specimen with "b" percent resin had the best performance and increasing the resin amount more than "b" percent markedly reduced the corrosion resistance
