Heat transfer calculations were conducted on the drying process of monolithic refractories. Due to the large water content of monolithic refractories, thermal factors such as specific heat and latent heat of evaporation of water have large effects and make temperature increase more difficult. It was found that by conversion of the latent heat of evaporation to an effective specific heat, the calculation results become more accurate. Also, based on these calculation results, the pressure behavior inside the installed body is also explained. Taking water permeability into account, it also became possible to calculate the pressure generation with high accuracy. Research and development using these calculation techniques will be continued to determine optimum drying conditions appropriate for various material characteristics.
