内容简介The importance of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) has increased greatly, as a necessary means of quantitatively assessing the effects of industrial commodities and manufacturing processes on the global environment. LCA is used as a means of gaining an understanding of the environmental impact, or burden, over the entire life cycle of products. It is also used to investigate the direction that future production systems should take to reduce the burden on the environment. This is done by calculating and compiling both the amount of resources and energy consumed (input), and the amount of product and wastes produced (output) for each stage of production, utilization and disposal, by monitoring a physical quantity, such as mass (see Fig. 1). It is often very difficult to precisely account for the full scope of the preliminary stages and all of the factors that impact how the wastes impact the environmental burden. Therefore, there is a concern that at some level there are limitations when considering the various factors, such as the goal, importance and degree of impact, when doing LCA. Generally speaking, the amount of natural resource consumption can be assessed fairly well, along with the impact of waste on air, water and soil.
