It is essential to reduce the energy consumption of aluminum-melting furnaces as much as possible because it constitutes a large proportion of the total energy consumption of industrial aluminum furnaces. Compared with heat-treating equipment, the promotion of automation and energy savings for aluminum-melting furnaces has lagged behind due to the diversity of charging materials and the operating methods. Therefore, there are many issues to be considered and improved. Consequently, aluminum-melting furnaces have drawn attention regarding productivity growth, quality improvement, and cost reduction, which has resulted in remarkable improvements in recent years. This paper describes (a) the latest technology for saving energy in aluminum-melting furnaces, which have achieved especially remarkable improvement recently and (b) the expectations for the refractories.
