内容简介Silicon nitride system ceramics have superior heat resistance and therefore have been put to practical use as high temperature structural materials. In recent years research on silicon nitride-silicon carbide composite (Si_3N_4-SiC) materials in which silicon carbide particles are dispersed in the silicon nitride has been carried out for the purpose of further improving the thermal properties of silicon nitride1'3'. It is important that Si_3N_4-SiC composite materials possess strong resistance to corrosion and oxidation for applications that involve the severe conditions associated with molten metal contact or oxidizing atmospheres. This paper describes an investigation on the high-temperature corrosion resistance and high-temperature oxidation resistance of Si_3N_4-SiC composite ceramics manufactured by an ordinary pressure sintering method using common raw materials with sub-micron size particles. It also describes the influence of the oxidized layer formed on the surface of the material on its durability.
