The authors achieved improvement in the corrosion resistance and permeability resistance to slag in a low-water content alumina-magnesia system castable material for ladle walls by the addition of a dispersing agent to improve the densification of the structure. At the same time, by the addition of coarse grain magnesia raw material, the spalling resistance was also improved with the result that a successful field test showed reduced crack generation and peeling.
