内容简介Geopolymer technology, which can be regarded as one of the strongest countermeasures to suppress atmospheric carbon dioxide emissions, is briefly reviewed. To make geopolymer monoliths, fillers and geopolymer liquor are prepared as source materials. Metakaolin and fly ash, which belong to the category of active fillers, are conveniently used as fillers. On the other hand, Na-silicate or K-silicate solutions, so called water glass, are used as geopolymer liquors and are generally mixed with Na-hydroxide or K-hydroxide solutions to prevent shrinkage during solidification of monoliths. Although geopolymer binders solidify at room temperature, steam curing is recommended as being most convenient. In this paper, principles of geopolymers are described first and then the latest progress and applications of geopolymers are introduced. In order to save mankind from the greenhouse effect as well as to save mankind from waste management issues, geopolymers have a high potential to replace Portland cements that have been manufactured for more than 180 years.
