We expect ceramics with unique properties will play a large and important role in the environment and energy fields. In this review, a brief description is given on the outline of engineering ceramics that can be applied for the purpose of energy saving and heat recovery in the systems and new processes that make use of engineering ceramics. Considering the recent steep rise in energy prices due to expanding demand in developing countries, the importance of engineering ceramics and their application is increasing further. It is expected that activities to improve, develop and commercialize engineering ceramics and ceramic-applied systems will be revitalized.
