内容简介Extensive research has been done to enhance the performance of MgO-C refractories. However, the actual use conditions in steelmaking are too severe to reproduce in the laboratory; for example, the long time scale, the rapid temperature changes, the extremely high reducing atmosphere, etc. So the development of the needed refractories has depended on experience rather than a simulated scientific approach. The aim of this study is to quantitatively characterize the property changes in MgO-C refractories after long term service, using an image analysis technique. The change of new parameters, i.e., fractal-dimension and the coverage of MgO clinker; the area ratio of MgO clinker in the treated image were examined. Using these parameters, it was possible to quantify the change in shape and the loss of MgO clinker.
