(1) A coating material containing mullite system ceramic fibers was developed and was applied on the outer surface of a ceramic fiber blanket ring in a field test. As a result, it was found possible to reduce the damage generated by iron oxide scale on the surface of the ceramic fiber blanket ring. (2) In order to reduce the joint opening between the ceramic fiber rings, a new vacuum forming technology was developed to manufacture a highly densified ceramic fiber body with a density greater than 200 kg/m~3. (3) A new shape having a combination semi-circular filling structure was designed and was shown to be a high efficiency method for installing ceramic fiber insulation around the skid pipe of a continuous reheating furnace. (4) The newly developed ceramic fiber ring body generated very little ceramic fiber dust and dramatically improved the installation efficiency and working environment.
