In recent years cement rotary kilns have contributed greatly to the construction of the resources recycling society by effectively utilizing, recycling and safely disposing of a large quantity of industrial wastes. Magnesia-spinel chrome-free bricks have been mainly used in the burning zone of cement rotary kilns to replace the magnesia-chrome bricks previously used. According to our company investigation, as of January 2005 about 60 percent of the kilns have been operating using all chrome-free linings This paper describes wear patterns of magnesia-spinel bricks in the burning zone of cement rotary kilns and characteristics of newly developed products in which wear resistance and structural spalling resistance were improved to decrease wear in the burning zone.
