The paper has briefly described the JIS methods for the evaluation of mechanical strength of refractories. And it has been demonstrated that computer simulation is a useful procedure for analyzing the mechanical strength of refractories. A statistical method for analyzing the strength, considering the loading time and effective volume of the testing material, was introduced herein. But it was noted that more work is needed to improve the accuracy of the calculated mechanical strength of refractories, for the purposes of material design and selection for field use.
