Various properties and effects on refractories of CaO system clinker were investigated, resulting in the findings mentioned below. A fractal nature was found in the element distributions of Zr and Al. In addition, the fractal analysis was effective in the evaluation of the microstructure. An improvement of penetration resistance and a desulfurization effect are expected in using CaO system clinker. The influences of the boundary lengths (complexity) of CaZrOa, CaaAbOe, etc on an improvement of hydration resistance of CaO system clinker are large. Al_2O_3 compositions are more effective in improving hydration resistance than ZrO_2 compositions, even if the content is low.
