Frequently it has been reported that the explosion of castables during drying seems to be caused by the vapor pressure of the moisture present~(1-7).The effect of the relationship between residual water and compressive strength after curing on the tendency for explosion, as well as the respective relationships between saturated steam pressure, pore size distribution, strength, mixing water temperature, curing temperature, thermal conductivity, water content, ratio of permeability to thermal conductivity were considered as factors that could help clarify the explosion mechanism(s). Macroscopic / general opinions have frequently been presented, but very few opinions have been expressed about the technical details. Accordingly, in this work, selected technical details related to permeability were considered to help clarify the explosion mechanism(s) for castables.
