内容简介Among the three corrosion evaluation tests investigated in this study for upper nozzle refractories, the flame gunning corrosion test simulated most closely the conditions that upper nozzles experience in the field. It permitted us to evaluate the effect of abrasion and thermal shock, but not that of oxidation, on the wear of upper nozzle materials. The wear of alumina-carbon materials is thought to be governed by the chemical corrosion and mechanical abrasion, while that of the basic material by thermal shock and oxidation. Upper nozzle refractories whose wear followed the same mechanism could be evaluated in the laboratory by theconventional rotary corrosion test with a proper flux, and the test results could be correlated to their actual performance in the field. On the contrary, materials whose wear followed different mechanisms could not be properly compared by the tests investigated in this study. Thus, the current study demonstrated the need to find a new bench test that would more closely reproduce conditions in the field.
