内容简介To better understand the drying mechanism(s) of castables it would be useful to measure the thermal conductivity during the drying process. The data obtained for a cylindrical sample, at a constant rate of heating, indicated that the temperature difference, DELTA T, between the surface and the center, was proportional to the inverse of the thermal diffusivity and to the square of the sample diameter. The thermal conductivity measured was affected by the chemical composition, strength, and porosity of the sample. The permeability calculated from the drying test results was less than that obtained directly from experimental data. When the ratio of length to diameter of a sample was small, the temperature difference, DELTA T, between the measured and calculated values tended to increase, due to the dissipation of water vapor. This observation was considered to be due to the effect of sample size on the measurements. When the sample length was 2.88 times the diameter, the calculated values of DELTA T agreed with those obtained from experimental data, which related to the reduction in water vapor dissipation from both ends of the sample. However, when diffusion of water vapor was considered, the agreement was poor. This was solved by using a model in which the flow of water vapor in the pores was responsible for the heat transfer.
