内容简介Penetration of molten steel into porous refractory by external pressure applied to the steel was directly observed by high temperature X-ray radiography. The maximum penetration height increased linearly with the external pressure. Observed maximum penetration height data were analyzed according to a modified capillary model, which was obtained by introducing labyrinth (or tortuosity) factor xi in a capillary model. The minimum external pressure at which molten steel starts to penetrate into a porous refractory was in reasonable agreement with the value estimated from the modified the capillary model. Discrepancies between the observed maximum penetration height values and the estimated ones obtained from the modified capillary model were discussed from the viewpoint of the labyrinth factor.
