内容简介The refractories studied show a high level of porosity (14 to 18 percent) which is detrimental to glass penetration at high temperatures. Glass penetrated through the open pores of the specimen and two zones of different microstructures were formed: an outer zone that was completely penetrated by the glass and a central core that was only partially penetrated. Chromia grains became larger through sintering and the presence of a liquid phase in the central zone and above the metal line. Optical CL microscopy has proved to be an important tool to access glass penetration and phase identification. The central (core) of the refractories contained a blue-CL phase at the grain boundaries (ZrSiO_4), which is also observed in the untested specimens. The microstructure of this central zone is very similar to microstructures of the specimen above the metal line but it was different from the microstructures of untested specimens.
