内容简介In a continuous casting system, the tundish is the intermediate vessel placed between a ladle, a steel-holding vessel, and a continuous casting mold. When the continuous casting system was first introduced, tundish linings were mainly made with brick. Since the beginning of 1980's, castables have gradually replaced brick in tundish linings against a background of successful application of castables to ladle linings and increases in the use of monolithic refractories relative to brick in the iron and steel industry. ~1-3) At present, most of the tundish linings are installed with castables. Many kinds of materials including those based on A1_2O_3-SiO_2, zircon, ~4)~5) alumina-spinel, ~5) and so on were studied for early castable linings for the tundish, but at present, materials based on alumina-silica are mainly used. This paper describes the patterns and the mechanisms of the damage of tundish linings, mainly of alumina-silica castables. It is difficult to treat the damage of tundish refractories in a unified way because of the complex interaction among the materials used for the tundish, its shape, operational conditions, maintenance conditions, and so on. We will, however, present an overview by classifying the damage into basic damage patterns. As for the damage of monolithic refractories and its mechanisms, on the other hand, there are many cases where no conclusion has been reached. Accepting this shortcoming, however, we will attempt to present an outline of the subject. Countermeasures against damage will not be treated in this paper except for the cases in which the damage mechanism can be clearly explained.
