内容简介Molten steel tapped out of converters and electric furnaces is treated in a secondary refining process before casting. In many cases this secondary process involves introducing inert gas (especially Ar) through a porous plug. The purpose of inert gas bubbling is as follows (1) Uniformity of molten steel temperature in the ladle, (2) homogenization of molten steel components, (3) removal of nonmetallic inclusions (purification of the molten steel) and (4) improvement of refining effects. In order to attain these objectives, the porous plug must be reliable, safe and durable during bubbling. Therefore, a rigorous quality control test is required to check individual gas permeability. In this paper, the failures of porous plugs are outlined, together with a discussion of countermeasures in operation.
