The authors examined carbon blacks that contribute to binder reduction and dense texture with attention to some carbon black characteristics. It was found that the carbon black with smaller DBP absorption was better for reduction of the binder amount and development of a dense texture, and that taphole clay with such small DBP absorption also had high slag corrosion resistance. Although there may be some problems in the texture formed at the hot condition and the drilled-ability, we were able to point out one of the future directions to realize high durability taphole clay.
