内容简介Tuyere or sleeve bricks for bottom-blowing converters are exposed to violent fluctuations in temperature caused by gas blowing. Accordingly, MgO-C bricks of better spalling resistance have been continuously sought after. As a means to improve the spalling resistance of unburned MgO-C bricks, reduction of their thermal expansion with thin flake graphite, sintered MgO, or pitch has been attempted. Sufficient improvement in spalling resistance, however, is yet to be made. On the other hand, "pitch-impregnated horned MgO-C brick" has been studied as another technique to improve the spalling resistance enough for the application in question. 'In the present study, the spalling resistances of unburned and pitch-impregnated burned MgO-C bricks were compared. Furthermore, the influence of thin flake graphite, sintered MgO, and pitch on the spalling resistance was studied from a fundamental standpoint.
