内容简介The state of carbon in a carbon-silicon composite produced by heat treatment of a mixture of carbon and silicon was analyzed by the AES method. By comparing the AES spectra, it was possible to distinguish the carbon from carbide and from graphite. The results of the quantitative analysis obtained from the intensity of spectral lines agreed with the above-mentioned distinction, and it was clear that the zone identified as carbide showed a chemical composition nearly the same as silicon carbide. As a result, it was established that the AES method was very effective for such analyses. Because AES can be applied to the analysis of the bonding condition of the elements in a minute region and to the quantitative analysis of the constituent elements, it is thought to be a very effective method of analyzing the bonding phase(s) and detecting unreacted residual components in the reaction sintered structure of fired refractory bricks. In addition, it is thought that it can be a very effective method for analyzing the thermal history which unburned refractory bricks experience during operation, and for the change in the structure of refractory bricks due to penetration by other components.
