In this study, the manufacture of an andalusite-based brick without any SiC and ZrO2 content was investigated as an alternative to the SiC- and ZrO2-containing high-abrasion-resistant refractories used especially in the cement industry. The physical and chemical properties of a manufactured andalusite brick were analysed and compared with the following bricks: ?regular high-alkali-resistant andalusite-SiC bricks ?andalusite-corundum-based brick with high thermal shock resistance ?phosphate-bonded andalusite-corundum brick with high abrasion resistance ?phosphate-bonded andalusite brick with high abrasion resistance.
