IREFCON was started by IRMA (Indian Refractory Makers Association) in 1994 with the liberalization of the economic policies introduced by the WTO, as the Indian industry felt the need for closer interaction with the global refractories community. IREFCON became a successful biennial conference complementing national conferences that had already been started back in the early 1970s. At the 10@ edition held from 15to 18 January 2014 at the Taj Bengal Hotel in Kolkata, nearly 500 experts attended to follow 66 oral presentations (28 from outside India), a poster session and to visit an exhibition with 26 companies showcasing their product portfolio and services.
