The corrosion resistance of castables was improved by the formation of Al_2O-Cr_2O_3 solid solution during firing of pre-cast castable blocks, resulting in corrosion resistance as good as fired bricks. In addition, it was possible to develop a material with excellent corrosion and spalling resistance, with lower Cr_2O_3 content.
